What Is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a free service that lets you borrow materials not available at La Crosse Public Library. Through networks like WorldCat and Wiscat, we find and deliver books, audiobooks, DVDs, journal articles, and more from libraries nationwide.
Who Can Use ILL?
Eligible: La Crosse Public Library cardholders with no fines or overdue items.
Not eligible: Temporary cardholders or those with restricted accounts.
Need a card? Sign up at any of our branches in La Crosse, Bangor, Campbell, Holmen, or Onalaska, or online at [insert library website URL].
What Can You Borrow?
Books (including textbooks, if available)
Audiobooks
DVDs
Journal articles
Microfilm
Other library materials (availability varies)
Note: Some materials, like new releases, may not be available through ILL.
How to Request an Item
Check our collection: Search the La Crosse Public Library catalog at [insert library website URL] to confirm the item isn’t here.
Submit your request:
Log in to your account and use WorldCat or Wiscat to request.
Need help? Call (608) 789-7100, email ill@lacrosselibrary.org, or visit the Reference Desk.
Pick up your item: We’ll notify you when it arrives (usually 1–2 weeks). Return it by the due date.
Costs and Guidelines
Cost: Most requests are free, but some lending libraries may charge a fee. We’ll let you know before proceeding.
Limits: Up to five active ILL requests at a time.
Loan period: Typically 2–4 weeks, set by the lending library. Renewals may be possible.
Your responsibility: Return items on time to avoid fines or loss of privileges.
Returning Materials
Bring ILL items back to La Crosse Public Library by the due date. Late or damaged items may incur fees from the lending library.
